I am done.
Gravesong, Book 2, has been written. The third arc, Warsong, is done. Actually, I’m changing the name to Thronesong. So you’re getting revisions even now.
Speaking of which, I have finished a Draft 1, and it’s…rougher. It’s still hopefully good enough to be the bones of the finished novel, but it’s still rougher than some chapters I’ve put out, and I want to touch it up.
So, how long was Arc 3 of this book? You have read the first two parts, at 83,000 words and 107,000 words. Arc 3 is…
240,000 words.
In one month, I have written 200k words (the other 40k or so were written when I stopped last time, I think). To say that I am tired is an understatement. I worked like a fireball to get this one done, and I have not exploded yet, but I will need at least my week off.
I think it surprised even my beta-readers, agent, and assistant when they realized the scope of Book 2 was so much more than the first book. I hadn’t mentioned it, but I thought–of course I’m going to tell the best story I can, which is inherently ambitious.
Too much so, perhaps. I put a lot into this book, and it took a great amount of time. I still need to edit it. I still need to revise, but I am conscious of a few things:
You have been patient with me, and I want to get back to The Wandering Inn. I have great Patrons, and I hope…I can feel fine about Arc 3 enough to release it so you can read it. I feel like that’d justify this month of subscriptions for people. I also want to get back to The Wandering Inn’s main story. But I was proud, and wanted to do Cara’s tale justice, and I hope I will, with enough work.
I will be on break till August 26th, which I know sounds longer, but I will get you Arc 3 to read so hopefully even the hungriest of duck-readers will be sated. Even you can’t read 200,000 words in one sitting. Well…I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for your patience, and I hope you enjoy Gravesong when it comes out. I will get both books in your hands as print versions someday. Though printing is another challenge to do right and well. Until later, know that I feel relieved, Baldur’s Gate 3 is meeting all expectations, and that I still quite enjoy what I do. I just resent the part where I get tired out.
